Planning your wedding in Britain comes with a high risk ... of rain!
After countless hours of planning & co-ordinating it may seem unfair that your wedding day can be sabotaged by rain. But you can't pay any amount of money to control it so why stress about it? So start excepting that there is a chance of rain on your special day and create your Plan, or Rain Plan.
Plan B - Contingency!
When you go to view venues with beautifully cute and quirky outside gazebos, make sure to ask what their Plan B is. If you are getting married at a gorgeous venue like The Inn on the Lake then your internal wedding room is gorgeous and well lit with natural light. Guests will have ample room indoors if the weather isn't playing ball in the mingle time before and afer the ceremony. There is also plenty of room inside for the formal photos.
If you decide to have an outdoor wedding with a teepee or marqueu - then you HAVE to have a contingency plan.
Here are some top tips from the beautiful (and wet) Lake District.
*Umbrellas:have a basket at the entrance with lots of umbrellas, you don't have to buy them, you can rent them from companies like
It also allows people to go outside if it's not raining too heavy - which spreads people out and they are not crammed inside the marqueu or teepee.
*Footwear:Compliment your frock with some wedding wellies - let's face it you will be much more comfortable. Try www.funky-wellington-boots.co.uk
Also tell your guests to bring sensible footwear (and perhaps coats, hats, gloves!)
*Sound System:When the heavens open and it's beating it down your guests far away from the top table will struggle to hear the speeches, so invest in a sound system! This way you will have everyones attention, granny will clearly hear the embarrsing stories from the best man and the rest of the guests will be able to hear the soppiest line from the groom to his bride.
*Make it WARM & COSY:If it's going to be cold then provide some blankets for the ladies and some marquues offer firepits too so you can roast marshmallows on them too - which is a very cute touch.
*Happy kids = Happy adults:If children are going to atttend your wedding then it's extrememly important to have things for them to do, otherwise you will end up with stressy parents. Provide lawn games (adults love these!), ball games, board games, bubbles, colouring books at the wedding breakfast table and if you want to be really fancy then book a childrens entertainer!
*Adults like games too! Giant Jenga, beer pong, lawn games, photo booth are all good fun and gives your photographer chance to capture some real fun instead of the standard 'circular standing socialising' photos.
*Nicola & Joshua*
Although they didn't get the oppertunity to say 'I Do' under the gazebo by the Ullswater shoreline - they still had an AMAZING DAY!
*This is becasue they knew and had excepted that they couldn't control the weather
*The day is about so much more than the weather. It's about making 'THE' commitment infront of family and friends to be toghter forever.
*It's about getting all your favourite people together in one room.
In the 10 years that I have been shooting professionally there has only been one occasion that the weather didn't give us a break, so even if it does rain on your special day - do believe that the weather will break for 5 minutes and we'll be able to shoot on that gorgeous jetty :) Believe!
Happy wedding planning :)
